It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Louise Cockmon on March 9, 2025, at the age of 95. Mary Louise was born on October 10, 1929, in Little Rock, Arkansas to Louis and Mary Bartsch.
Mary Louise graduated from Mount St. Mary’s Academy and attended Business School where she met her husband, Sherrill Cockmon. Mary Louise and Sherrill raised six children together before Sherrill lost his battle with diabetes. After Sherrill died in his early 40’s Mary Louise continued to raise her family on her own. She was once asked by her great granddaughter what her dream was when she was a young girl, and she answered to be a Mama and she was one of the best. Mary Louise was known for her devotion and love of all her six children. Mary Louise always was a strong support for all her family throughout her entire life. She frequently commented she always believed everything her children told her.
Mary Louise was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought her so much joy . She especially loved playing cards with them for hours. She was known by the name of Old Grandma to her great grandchildren. She said that Old Grandma was her favorite name.
Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary Bartsch, her husband Sherrill Cockmon, her brother Joseph Bartsch, her daughter Janet Ypya, and two grandsons Derek and Travis Mains.
Mary Louise leaves behind her daughters Sharon Denham and her husband Donald, Mary Susan Andrews and her husband Keith, Jo Ann Huffines and her husband Jim, her sons David Cockmon, and Daniel Cockmon. Her cherished grandchildren Donna Young and husband Travis, Krystal Andrews, Holly Rosnermanz and husband Ben, Gina Bolick , Daniel Cockmon, Jennifer Minyard and her husband Brad, Matthew Cockmon, Katie Stehle and husband Curtis. James Huffhines, Sara Huffines, Emily Huffines, and Sam Huffines. Great grandchildren, Zachary Ward, Ann Marie Young, Jacob Abbot, Jamie Abbot, Anna Johnson, Callie Rosnermanz, Harvin and Hendrix Honea, Sawyer and Lucas Minyard.
Mary Louise was a devote Catholic with a strong devotion to Our Blessed Mother. All her children and grandchildren remember her praying the rosary before she fell asleep at night. Although we are saddened by the loss of our mother, we are joyful that she is now with Our Lord and his blessed mother.
All services will be held on Friday, March 14th, beginning with a Visitation at 10am at Smith NLR Funeral Home, a Rosary will begin at 11:30am at St. Patrick's Church with a Funeral Mass following at 12pm.
Our deepest gratitude and thanks to Dr. Jasmine Prim and the staff at Baptist Health and PACE for the exceptional and loving care they gave to our mother. They were a blessing to us.
