Mary Gwendolyn Garr Barron, 79, of North Little Rock passed away Monday, July 17, 2006. She was born August 19, 1926 to the late Charles and Mary Garr, growing up in Camden. She was a drum majorette, homecoming queen and played baritone in the school band. Gwen went to college at Henderson State University for one year. She then went to work for the Veterans Administration where she met her future husband, the late Colonel William H. Barron, her husband, of 56 years. She was very active in her four children lives, assuming the roles of scout leader and PTA mother. Gwen loved to swim and enjoyed water aerobics for many years before her death. Gwen loved dancing as a young girl, and later as a mother and grandmother. She loved football and was an avid Razorback fan. She was a longtime member of Lakewood United Methodist Church. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by three sons, Dr. Stephen Thomas Barron (Karen), of Knoxville, Tennessee, Dr. William Garr Barron (Rosalind), of Russellville, James Harold Barron (Diane), of Brazona, Texas; one daughter, Mary Ann Barron, of Sherwood; brother, Larry Garr (Helen), of North Little Rock; sister-in-law, Nelda Dozier (Jack), of Hot Springs; eight grandchildren, Emily, Doug, Christine, Nicholas, Jason, Matthew, Eric and Corey and a host of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to The Shriners Hospital in Houston, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, July 21, 2006 at Lakewood United Methodist Church. Family will receive visitors at the church following the service.
