Martha Sue Long O'Bannon, 84, of Lonoke, Arkansas, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at Chambers Nursing Home in Carlisle. She was born December 25, 1924 in Atkins, Arkansas to the late George and Walsie Jackson Long and spent her childhood in Morrilton. On December 16, 1944, she married Murl Mizell O'Bannon.
She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. For over thirty years, she and her husband owned a dairy farm in the Woodlawn Community in northern Lonoke County. Sue loved her vegetable garden, caring for her flowers, sewing, and was a wonderful cook. Prior to moving to Lonoke in 1985 and becoming a member of Lonoke Baptist Church, Sue was a longtime member of Wattensaw Baptist Church.
Sue is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Murl Mizell O'Bannon and daughter-in-law, Jeanina O'Bannon. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn O'Bannon of Jacksonville and Susan (Gaylon) Eoff of Lonoke and one son, Kevin O'Bannon of Lonoke. MiMi leaves five grandchildren, Amy (Lee) Osment of Jonesboro, Shane Eoff of Lonoke and Josh, Brandon and Courtney O'Bannon of Lonoke. She is survived by four sisters, Helen Millar of Ashville, North Carolina, Elizabeth Fulkerson and Betty Hill of Morrilton, Georgia Parks of Maumelle and three brothers, Carl (Kathryn) Long of Morrilton, Mack Earl Long of Jacksonville and David (Judy) Long of Paris, who lovingly referred to her by her childhood nickname, "Tubb". She is also survived by brothers-in-law Morris (Lavina) O'Bannon of Ackerman, Mississippi, Elondrie O'Bannon of Maben, Mississippi and Robert Turner of Mobile, Alabama and sisters-in-law, Edris O'Bannon of Madison, Mississippi and Helen Tollison of Starkville, Mississippi and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation for the love and care given to "Sue-Sue" by the staff at Chambers Nursing Home over the last two and a half years. We would also like to thank the staffs of Greenbriar Retirement of Lonoke and Baptist Hospice for the care they provided our mother.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2009, at Lonoke First Baptist Church, with burial in Lonoke Cemetery.
