Martha Jennings Holmes, of North Little Rock passed away Friday, November 14, 2008. Born to C. C. and Calma Elah (Patton) Jennings on August 13, 1916 in the farming community of Walters Chapel outside of Carlisle Ar. Martha was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 48 years, David Leon Holmes; brothers, Terrell, Truman, Winston and Basil; sisters, Audrey, Dorus and long time friend Ernestine Carter.
Martha was a proud member of Levy Baptist Church in North Little Rock since 1955. She loved God, her church and all of her family. She loved to tell about her grandchildren, growing up on the family farm, playing high school basketball, teaching school and singing in the choir at Levy Baptist Church. Martha had a sweet disposition with a loving spirit, keen sense of humor and never a cross word for anyone.
Survivors include her son, David and his wife Darlene of North Little Rock; Grandchildren,Denise Holmes of Fayetteville and Drew Holmes of Little Rock; sister, Mary Justice of Lonoke; brother, Kenneth Jennings of Carlisle, Ar. Also celebrating her life are many nieces, nephews and her extended family, the Smiths, Carters and Smileys.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 16, 2008 from 2:00pm -4:00pm at Huson Funeral Home, 7700 Hwy 107 Sherwood, Ar. Funeral will be Monday, November 17, 2008 at 10:00am in the chapel of Huson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle Ar.
