Martha Bliss Daniel (Gould) of Little Rock, died Tuesday, July 3, 2018, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Martha was born May 26, 1943, in Little Rock to John F. Gould and Wilma Wanita Gould (Heer). She was a proud native of Little Rock, a National Merit Scholar upon graduation from Little Rock Central High, a graduate of Hendrix College in Conway, and earned a Master of Arts in History from UCA.
In her over 40 years with the Little Rock School District, Martha taught American Government, Civics, and History to thousands of students. She was passionate about dogs, an expert in politics, and an avid fan of tennis. Her favorite quote was from Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself":
"Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes)"
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, John F. Gould, Jr., and her aunts, Mrs. Marguerite Foster and Mrs. Betty Williams. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Page Daniel, her daughters, Nita Daniel and Bliss (Rob) Hanlin, her two grandchildren, and her much-loved extended family in Arkansas, Texas, and Massachusetts.
Donations may be made in Martha's memory to the ACLU or the Little Rock Animal Village.
