Mark Joseph Pennebaker, age 51, died October 5, 2009 while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with friends and his wife, Kristi. Mark was a man larger than life with a love for people and their dreams; this making the consummate banker. He loved his family, his friends, traveling, cooking, the outdoors, and the music of Jimmy Buffet. He always wanted everyone to be happy and helped however he could to achieve that happiness.
Mark was very civic minded and loved the North Little Rock community. He served on many boards including: Boys and Girls Club of NLR, American Red Cross, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Arkansas, NLR Rotary Club, NLR Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Country Club of Little Rock. He graduated from Catholic High School for Boys in 1975 and Rockhurst College in 1979. Mark's banking career started during his summers in college at the original Twin City Bank. Upon graduating from college, he worked for the Arkansas State Bank Examiners then became a Vice President at Twin City Bank. In July of 1996, Mark continued his commitment to banking at Bank of the Ozarks until his untimely death. He was an extremely active member of Immaculate Conception Church.
Mark is survived by his wife, Kristi Beavers Pennebaker, his daughters Layne, 11 years old and Paige, 6years old. He is also survived by his mother, Pat Pennebaker of NLR, two sisters; Mary of NLR and Laura (Rod) Eppley of Rogers, AR; a brother, Bryan (Leslie) Pennebaker of Ft. Worth, TX. He is also survived by in laws Charlie and Kaye Beavers of LR, two sisters in law; Paige (Andy) Miller of LR and Blair (Scott) Evans of Memphis, TN along with numerous nieces and nephews. All will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Pennebaker and sister, Dee Dee Pennebaker.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 9th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. to be followed by the Vigil service at 7:00 p.m.. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10th with Monsignor John O'Donnell officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Church or School.
