Marjorie Jane (Rife) Hart, 90, of Cabot, Arkansas, passed away December 3, 2018 at Spring Creek Health in Cabot.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Mark Stanley and Katherine Ruth (Schmidt) Rife. She grew up in Naperville, Illinois, where she graduated from high school in 1946.
After working in her parents’ dry cleaning shop, she was employed by WGN in Chicago, where she met her future husband, Edward Hart. They were married in Naperville in 1953. After the birth of her first two children, the family moved to Los Angeles.
She was a devoted stay-at-home mom when her children were younger. She also taught pre-school, and worked as an editor for several magazines. She was also a free-lance writer, and had several books published.
Marjorie’s greatest passion was her art. Her talent for painting and drawing has been recognized over many years at state and local shows.
She was a member of Cabot United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her three children, Kathleen Shelton of Cabot, Arkansas; Daniel Hart of Boston, Massachusetts; and Christopher Hart of Vancouver, Washington; daughter-in-law Ann Miller of Boston, Massachusetts; son-in-law Paul Mitchell of Vancouver, Washington; sister-in-law, Anne D’Arcy of Santa Rosa, California; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Mark Stanley Rife Jr. and William Rife; and sister Barbara Edmonson.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 7th from 3-5 pm at Cabot United Methodist Church, 2003 South Pine Street, Cabot. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
