Marjorie Ruth David Hubbard left us on July 26, 2011. She was born December 24, 1919 to Elva Elizabeth and James Lewis David near Sparkman, Arkansas. She was predeceased by her husband, Capt. Joseph E. Hubbard, USAF; her parents and six siblings, brothers, Jack, Paul, J.L. Jr. and Richard, and sisters, Oleta DeLamar and Berniece Bugh; and her son-in-law, Dr. Carroll D. Jones.
Following the death of her husband at Fort Holabird, Maryland, she moved back to Arkansas with her two daughters to start a new life. While teaching in Bearden, Arkansas for seven years, she spent her summers at Henderson State Teachers College (now Henderson State University) and completed her degree in education. After moving to Little Rock in 1956, she began teaching in the Little Rock School District, teaching 6th grade for seven years at Wilson Elementary. During this time, she completed a Master's Degree in Education at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She then served as a principal at Fair Park, Romine, Ish, Southwest Middle School and Junior High School and Henderson Junior High School. She was active in Tau Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, Principals Round Table and in the Association for Childhood Education (ACE), serving as president of the Little Rock chapter. She was presented with lifetime memberships in ACE and the Parent Teacher Association.
In 1983, Marjorie retired and enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii and throughout the United States. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association, where in 1991 she was chosen as one of the top ten Business Women in America. She was active in forming a chapter of Gold Star Wives of America, serving on the national board as Region President, and locally as president, secretary and treasurer of the La Petite Roche Chapter. A lifelong Methodist, she was currently a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the Ruth Circle and Win One Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Hubbard is survived by her daughter, Dr. Jo Jones of Bella Vista and daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Chuck Leverett of Cabot; grandsons, Matthew and Douglas Jones of Little Rock and Christopher Jones of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter, Maria Franco and her husband, Gino and great-grandson, Allen Franco, all of Springdale; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family throughout Arkansas and the United States.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Susan Santa Cruz, Deborah Wright, R.N., R.N.P., and all the staff of Arkansas Hospice for their loving and excellent care, and also her caregivers from Brightstar as well, the two Shirleys, Darlene, Violet, Carolyn, Ashley, Brenda and Mistie of the 24-7 Home Care Team.
Visitation will be Thursday evening, July 28 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Services will be Friday, July 29 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Dr. Bryan Fink, followed by interment at 2:00 p.m. at Moss Cemetery in Bearden with Rev. Andrew Hughes officiating.
