Marjean S. Rowe

Marjean S. Rowe passed into eternal life on March 21, 2024.  She was born Marjean Louise Schultz on October 9, 1958 in Little Rock to Marjorie Brown Schultz and Harold M. Schultz.  She was raised in the Quapaw Quarter of downtown Little Rock by her loving mother and her maternal grandparents, Edna Jean White Brown Johnston and Theron E. Johnston, all of whom preceded her in death.  When her mother remarried, her last name became Sharp and she was known as Marjean Sharp.

Marjean graduated from Mt. St. Mary Academy in 1976.  She received her B.A. in Speech Communications from U.A.L.R. in 1980 and her M.S. in Communicative Disorders from U.A.M.S. in 1985.  She was initiated into Delta Delta Delta sorority at U.A.L.R. in 1977.  Marjean had a long career as a speech-language pathologist in the public schools of Arkansas, retiring from the North Little Rock School District in 2020.  She was dedicated to helping children overcome speech, language, and learning difficulties.

She was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Handbell Ensemble.  Over the years, she also attended Lakewood U.M.C. in North Little Rock and Trinity U.M.C. in Little Rock, where she taught preschool Sunday School for several years.  She was a Girl Scout volunteer and leader during Laura’s elementary school years.  Due to her famously terrible sense of direction, she once got the entire troop lost on Petit Jean Mountain!

Marjean loved to travel and visited 24 states as well as the following countries:  Jamaica, Mexico, Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Liechtenstein. Switzerland, and Austria.  Her hobbies also included genealogy, music, reading, nature photography, dancing, dog agility, and cross-stitch embroidery.  In her youth and younger adult years, she enjoyed swimming, camping at Arkansas lakes and the Buffalo River, water skiing, boating, going to the beach, and snorkeling.

Marjean was formerly married to the late Mark Crossley and to Garry Rowe.  She is survived by her cherished daughter, Laura Rowe Zollers (Dan), grandchildren Josephine and James Zollers, sister Gerri Sharp Ringgold (Kenny), niece Lindsey Ringgold Jordan (Drew) and their children, and many dear friends.

She will be remembered for her love of family and friends, abiding faith in God, compassion for others, passion for social justice, perceptive mind, sense of humor, strong will, independence, long-winded storytelling, and being unafraid to say exactly what she thought!
