Marion Porter

Marion O. Porter of NLR, Ark. passed away Feb 27, 2008 at the VA Medical Center in LR, after battling emphysema for many years. He was 80 years old. Born 6-27-1927 in Heber Springs, Ark. to Oscar and Mildred Porter, who preceded him in death.

He attended Draughn?s Business College in Little Rock, and honorably served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict.

He retired from Ft. Roots Veteran?s Hospital after 35 years, and settled into retirement to enjoy his Masonic Lodge fellowship, his church, The Levy Church of Christ, and his large circle of family and friends.

He was raised to 32nd Degree, KCCH in 1989. He was a Perpetual Member of Masons, serving as Past Master of Mt. Sinai Lodge, #749, NLR. He proudly received the Peddlers of Solomon Award from Mt. Sinai. And also was a member of the Scimitar Shrine Temple, LR. He also served as member advisor for the Order of the Eastern Star, Levy #577, NLR.

Mr. Porter married the former Geneva Gillean of Pine Ridge, Ark. on June 30, 1948. So is tearfully survived by his wife of 59 years, Geneva L. Porter of NLR.

He will also be missed by his 2 children: Gwen Porter Bartsch and husband, Paul, of Waco, Tx. And son, Rickie Lynn Porter and wife, Nancy, of Fayetteville, Ark.

Grandchildren: Andy Hopkins and wife, Kim, of Baltimore, Md.; Melody Cooley and husband, Mark, of Ft. Worth, Tx. Jason Porter and wife, Aimee, of Fayetteville;
Jared Porter of Fayetteville, and Jacob Porter of Fayetteville.

Great-Grandchildren: Jason Porter, Jr.; Anthony, Blake, Courtney, & Deanna Hopkins; and Emma and Drew Cooley.

He also will be greatly missed by his only surviving sister, Jean Partin, and his niece, Renata Partin Gann. Also a nephew, Ed Six of NLR.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170. Online obituary and guest register at www.nlrfh.com.

After the funeral services, friends and family are welcome to gather at the Ministry Center at the Levy Church of Christ, Camp Robinson Rd., NLR. (Mr. Porter would have loved to know that everyone stopped and visited a little.)
