Marion Ozment

Marion Oneta Simons Ozment, 85, of Sherwood, Arkansas went to be with the Lord, Friday, January 18, 2019.

Marion was born April 12, 1933 in Winnsboro, Louisiana. She was raised in the small community of Swampers in Franklin Parish, where her family resided. Her father for whom she was named was a farmer and her mother, Ola was a homemaker. She graduated from Crowville High School in 1952, then attended business school.

After business school she attended Nursing school in Galveston, Texas along with her youngest sister, Frankie. They decided they wanted to be closer to home and transferred to Warner Brown School of Nursing in El Dorado, Arkansas. After graduation and having worked a few years, Marion decided she wanted to serve her country and signed up in the Air Force Reserves. She was commissioned a 2nd Lt. and at discharge was ranked Captain. While serving Marion began working at the Veterans Administration and upon retirement completed 41 years of service.

Having served over four decades of war and conflict from surgery service, geriatrics, mental health and drug and alcohol, she felt her patients deserved the best of care and compassion. Her goal to maintain patient dignity and her personal integrity were the forefront of her career

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Ola; older sister, Margaret “Peggy” Herring; nieces, Colonel Hedy C.
