Marion Atley Boykin, 85, of Little Rock, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Born September 14, 1923 in Ludlow, Mississippi, he was the son of Charley H. and Annie Belle Kitchings Boykin. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. After graduating from Mississippi College at Clinton, Mississippi, Mr. Boykin earned his Master's degree from the University of Mississippi at Oxford. He worked as an aerophysics engineer at Vitro Corp at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and at Convair in Fort Worth, Texas, then became a Mathematics Professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he taught for thirty years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Frances C. Boykin, his parents and his brother, Charles William Boykin. He is survived by his son, Carl Boykin and wife, Nancy of Roland; daughters, Nancy Boykin and husband, Stuart Warnock of Fort Worth, Texas and Sandra Boykin of Lafayette, Louisiana; sister, Jo Davidson of Hattieville, Arkansas; and three grandchildren, Charley Boykin, Sarah Boykin and Annalee Boykin.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, June 25 at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, with Pastor Mike High officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:30 a.m. (prior to the service) at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock.
