Marilyn June Thweatt, of Bryant, passed away on May 14, 2024. Marilyn led a fulfilling life. She was retired from Bryant Public Schools where she held several positions throughout the years. Her commitment and hard work left a lasting impact on all those whose lives she touched within the school system.
Beyond her career, Marilyn was involved with Tom Dillon’s Sunday School class at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church & Community Bible Study in Little Rock. Marilyn’s faith and trust in the Lord was deep. Even though she suffered very deep losses, she lived her life as a testament to the goodness of God.
Born on December 18, 1952, in Benton, Arkansas, Marilyn had a zest for life that was contagious. She found joy in traveling throughout the United States & Canada. Marilyn enjoyed working in her yard with her flowers and plants. She was also an avid sports fan! She loved watching college football and baseball. Marilyn still enjoyed cheering on the Bryant Hornets football and baseball teams from the comfort of home.
Family held a paramount place in Marilyn's heart, especially her dear grandchildren who brought immense happiness into her life. In addition to her devotion to family, Marilyn loved to read. She would stay up late at night reading a good book.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, James Talmadge "Tal" Thweatt; daughter, Stacie Coddington; son, Wesley Thweatt; and parents Eugene and Martha (Nowlin) Statler. While we mourn their loss along with Marilyn's departure, we find comfort in the cherished memories she has left behind.
She is survived by her loving daughter Jennifer Carter of Bryant, Arkansas; cherished grandchildren Abigail, Elizabeth, and Jonathan Carter of Bryant; caring sisters Nancy Hampel (Mike) of Benton and Carolyn Carter (David) of Benton; brother-in-law Bob Thweatt of Maumelle; sister-in-law Sally Patterson (Brandon) of Franklin, Tennessee; nieces and nephews Matt Hampel, Lindsey Parker (Chad), Aaron Roberts (Mike), Zach Patterson, along with numerous other family members and friends who will always hold Marilyn dear in their hearts.
A Graveside Service for family and close friends will be held at Mount Harmony Cemetery in Haskell, officiated by Pastor Dave Hughey, on May 21st at 9:00 AM. Join the family for a Celebration of Life Reception honoring Marilyn Thweatt at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church in Little Rock from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. This will be an opportunity for all who knew Marilyn to come together and honor her remarkable life.
Memorials may be made to Geyer Springs First Baptist Church or to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Marilyn's legacy of love, faith, and warmth will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered with affection by those whose lives she enriched through her kindness and generosity.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brandon Duke and Dr. Apostolov at St. Vincent’s North for the warmth, kindness, and compassion they demonstrated thoughout the time Marilyn was in their care.
