Marilyn Marie Lyon Ahring transitioned from this life to the next on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. She was born December 5, 1927, and was preceded in death by her parents, Claude J. Lyon and Lois Marie Adkins, and her husband Walter Ahring, Jr.
She is survived by a sister, Betty Davidson and husband, Jim; brother-in-law, William Ahring; stepsons, Walter Ahring III and wife, Sherry; Dr. John Nash and wife, Georgia; stepdaughter, Carol Nash; grandson, Adam Nash; nieces, Julie Shofner, Deborah Ahring and Olivia Palombo; nephews, Steve Ahring and Kris Katrosh, and many cousins.
For the past 14 years prior to her recent retirement, Marilyn was actively employed by UAMS in the Department of Hematology/Oncology. Marilyn was also an accomplished singer. In her younger life she sang big band music around Southern California. Later in life, she sang for family and friends at special holiday and informal gatherings. Her voice will now ring out in heaven and sing with the angels. Marilyn was a lover of all animals, especially cats and dogs. She devoted much of her free time rescuing animals and finding homes for them. She leaves behind her beloved dog, Pierre, and three cats.
A service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 West 17th Street, Little Rock, AR, 72206, on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. The Reverend Russ Snapp and The Reverend Jason Alexander will preside. Interment of ashes will follow in the garden at the Cathedral. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Pulaski County Humane Society, 14600 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, AR, 72210, or Careforanimals.org.
