Marie Hardin, 93, of North Little Rock, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011. Marie was born in Trenton, New Jersey on January 27, 1917 to Henry and Lucy Marshall. She attended Villa Victoria Academy in Trenton, N. J. After graduating she attended nursing school at Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. She received a diploma as a Registered Nurse in 1941. In 1945 she was commissioned in the United States Navy as an Ensign USNR. She served in the United States Navy in various assignments in Hawaii, California , Virginia and Gulf Port Mississippi where she met her husband of 59 years Dr. R.D. Hardin. They were married in Gulf Port Mississippi in 1945. Dr. Hardin was a Commander in the United States Navy who just returned from overseas duty in the Pacific with the United States Marines. The couple, after being discharged from the Navy, moved to North Little Rock Arkansas where Dr. Hardin established his Practice of Dentistry.
Marie's interest were her family (husband, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends), Duplicate Bridge Player (lifetime master ranking), Florida (took immediate and extended family on many trips), athletics (golf, tennis) (she was athletic and her girls had her gift), cooking/eating (cooked dinner every night) and shopping (always had to find a deal).
She is survived by three daughters, Karen Bryant and husband, Neil, Jane Schubert and husband, Rick, all of North Little Rock, Debra Ploetz and husband, Greg, of Weatherford, Texas; four grandsons, Bart Bryant, Doug Cornish, Daniel Cornish and Beau Ploetz; two granddaughters, Shea Bryant and Erin Ploetz; three great-grandchildren, Boone, Holdyn and Caden. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. R. D. Hardin; two sisters, Lu Marshall and Fran Cantwell.
Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7000 John F. Kennedy, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72116.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mulberry Cemetery, England, Arkansas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170, with Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Online obituary and guest registry at www.nlrfh.com.
