Marguerite Mathis Barger, age 92, passed away in Hospice Home Care Tuesday, May 10, 2016. She was born on July 1, 1923 in El Dorado, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Dessie Woods and William Mathis, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John L. Barger, her brother William "Bill" Mathis, Jr. and his wife, Nina Sue Mathis. When she was 12 years old, the family moved to Little Rock and affiliated with the First Baptist Church in 1935. She graduated from Little Rock High School in 1943 and was employed at Missouri Pacific Railroad until retirement.

She is survived by her son, John William "Johnny" Barger and his wife Linda; grandson, John Mathis "Matt" Barger (who called her Grandma), his wife, Elizabeth and their daughter, Kaylie (Marguerite's great-granddaughter), all of Little Rock. Survivors also include her sister, Carlice Mathis Dickinson and husband, Walter; nieces, Marilyn Miller and Carolyn Owen (Charlie); nephew, Walt Dickinson, Jr. (DeeDee); and great- nieces and nephews, Michelle Nichols, Laura Geurin, Gates Smith, Walt Dickinson III, Mary Dickinson and Will Dickinson. Marguerite was known to many as "Auntie." She loved spending time with her family, especially going shopping and eating out with her sister and nieces.

Visitation will be Friday, May 13 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, officiated by Pastor Scott Martin.
