Margaret "Granny" Matthew

Margaret “Granny” Matthew, age 88, of Hot Springs, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

She was born on April 28, 1934, in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of John Starr Thorton and Margaret Brown Thorton.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Karl Matthew; her parents; one brother; one sister; and two children.

Margaret was a member of Unity Church.  She was devoted to her work as an executive director of the  Rape Crisis Center in Little Rock.  She was a very sociable person, making friends wherever she went.  She loved beach vacations and cats.  She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Linda Matthew; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary K. and Jeff Bacon; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
