Margaret Ellen Letzig "Mel" Kemp passed away peacefully surrounded by family during prayer at Hospice Home Care on April 03, 2016. Mel was born August 1, 1924 in Little Rock to Margaret (Himstedt) and Frank W. Letzig, Sr. Mel graduated from Little Rock High School in 1942 and furthering her education, graduated from Webster College in St. Louis, MO in 1946 with Cum Laude honors. Mel was proud to have made her Debut in 1946 in Little Rock and maintained a lifelong endeared friendship with her debutante sisters as well as many close lifelong friends in Little Rock and throughout the country.

Mel married E. Ray Kemp, Jr. on September 17, 1949. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and eldest son, William R. Kemp. She is survived by her children, Daniel B. Kemp Sr. (Ann) of Little Rock, Ellen Kemp Rogers (Rolan) of Paragould, AR, Michael E. Kemp of Little Rock (partner, Allen Williams) and her beloved brother, Frank W. Letzig, Jr. (Betty) of Little Rock. Mel grew up with two of her first cousins while her parents were away serving our country and they remained very close through her life, St. Clair (Sinky) Hultzman of Colorado Springs, CO and Peyton Crawford Bishop of Little Rock Mel's grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly knew her as "Meme". She is survived by her grandchildren, Amy Kemp Harkins (James), Molly Kemp Humphries (Matt), Daniel B. (Brennan) Kemp, Jr., Christopher M. Kemp, Rebecca L. Kemp, all of Little Rock and Catherine A. Kemp of Dallas, TX., and her great-grandchildren, Alex T. Harkins, Helen F. Humphries and David B. Humphries. Mel was blessed with many nieces and nephews who cherished her and loved her as their "Aunt Mel ".

Mel was parishioner of The Cathedral of St. Andrew where she received the sacraments of the Catholic Church. She was a member of the Country Club of Little Rock, The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, The Tuesday Bridge Club (which began in 1950) and she hosted the Ladies Swim Club in her homes for 30 years.

Because of her strong lifelong Catholic faith the family request memorials may be made to the Carmelite Convent; 7201 West 32nd Street, Little Rock, AR 72204, The Cathedral of St. Andrew; 617 South Louisiana St., Little Rock, AR 72201 or the charity of one's choice.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 7 beginning at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 7:00 at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 8 at 9:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery.
