Margaret Athy

Margaret Biggs Athy passed from the world into heaven on April 3, 2014. She was born to loving parents Horace E. and Lynda Mae McNeely Biggs on April 13,1929 in Scott, Arkansas. Margaret had a very vibrant personality and greatly enjoyed working with her hands, from knitting beautiful argyle socks for her husband and tiny Barbie clothing, to tirelessly stitching the many colorful quilts she made.

As most know red was her favorite color. It was no surprise that the first time she met her wonderful husband Charlie who was driving a bright red 1947 Oldsmobile convertible she was smitten for life. His quick witt and gentleman like ways were hard to resist. They married three months after meeting. She never forgave him for the day that he came home after selling "her red car" for a practical four-door family car. He thought it was time since their family had grown to include two daughters and a son.
Charlie would never agree to her wearing a red dress even knowing that was her favorite color and she did not like it. He considered it to be too country. But she was a "country" girl and he was a "city" boy. Margaret didn't give in easy, being strong willed and determined, she secretly created a beautiful red wool gabardine dress. It had a full skirt and small black belted waist which was popular at the time. The day she modeled it for him with her beautiful dark hair and big brown eyes all he could say was "Oh, Momma, I was wrong, Red is YOUR color". He never complained about any color she wore from then on, to him she looked beautiful in everything she wore.
They celebrated almost 50 years together and made a very handsome couple as they shared life together. Traveling was a favorite pastime of theirs and led to 17 exciting train adventures around the country. She was a member of Park Hill Presbyterian Church for almost 50 years.
Mrs. Athy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Athy Jr. Survivors include a sister Ann Presley (Mack); Three very loved children: Cherece Athy, Karen Athy Taylor (Dean), Charles Athy; Step-daughter: Charlotte V. Athy (Tim); Granddaughters: Mattie Dunham (Michael), Sarah Willis (Scott), Rachael Page (Justin), Katelyn Cogburn; Six great-grandchildren: Gage Robbins, Emma Chism, Hudson Page, Colt Dunham, Kimber Dunham and Camby Cogburn.
