Madine Cora Hunter Lewis, 91, of Benton, Arkansas went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 19, 2010 at 12:40 a.m. She was born May 1, 1918 to the late John Edmund and Inez Olive Corr Hunter, a farming family, in Rice Township, Perry County, in southern Illinois. On May 29, 1947, she was united in marriage to Thomas Roy Lewis in St. Louis. They were married for 61 years at the time of his death.
She is survived by her only daughter, Patti Statton and husband, Joe of Bryant; granddaughter, Laura Marie Statton of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandsons, Timothy Statton and wife, Kayla of Arkadelphia and Nathan Statton and wife, Shelly of Bryant; great-granddaughters, Kaleigh, Alexis, Avery, and Emory Statton; thirteen nieces and nephews and long-time friends from St. Louis and Magnolia, Arkansas. Madine was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and seven sisters. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Madine worked at Magic Chef in St. Louis which, during the 1940s, became a production center to support the war effort. She also worked at National Rejecters and McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation (Boeing). She was a Sunday School teacher, faithfully serving her Lord in this capacity for 52 years. She had a dedicated love for her Special Ministry girls at Central Baptist Church in Magnolia. Her focus was her family, with constant attention and love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love for her Lord was expressed by her love and service to others, especially her family and church. Madine was a loyal friend, wonderful mother, caring grandmother and loving great-grandmother.
A Memorial Service will be held at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church on Monday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Ted Stanton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Geyer Springs First Baptist Church, designated for the Arkansas Baptist Children's Homes.
