Mac Burton Sisson age 62 of Arkadelphia, died Tuesday, March 8, 2010 at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Arkadelphia. He was born May 10, 1947 in Crossett, AR, the son of Zeph and Pauline McCone Sisson. He graduated with a B. A. in Political Science at Ouachita Baptist University in 1969, and a M.S.E. in Social Studies Education in 1971. Mac worked in both radio and print journalism, and worked in public relations at Ouachita for 30 years. In the middle of that stretch he served as director of public relations for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. He returned to his former position at Ouachita in1989. He also served as sports information director at Ouachita from the early 1970s until 2001. Sisson won numerous awards for his work in both sports information and journalism. He served as president, vice president and secretary of the NAIA Sports Information Directors Association. Sisson was named the Ike Pearson Sports Information Director of the Year in 1978. He was also the founder and Director of the Miss Arkansas's Outstanding Teen Pageant and Public Relations Director for Miss Arkansas Pageant Organization for many years. Mac was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and a deacon at First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia. He was preceded in death by his son Alan and his father Zeph.
Survivors include his wife Donna Shults Sisson, his daughter Stephanie Carol Sisson Green and husband Jared of Rogers, AR; his mother Pauline McCone Sisson of Crossett, one sister Peggy Sisson Snow of Prairie Grove, AR and one grandson Jackson Thomas Green.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia with Dr. Lee McGlone and Rev. Steve Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens near Arkadelphia. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Wednesday in Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Pallbearers will be Chris Babb, Rex Nelson, Larry Pennington, Rick Pruitt, Jeff Root and Jim Veneman.
