Mabel Elizabeth Clay

Mabel Elizabeth Clay of Sherwood was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend.  She went to heaven on October 28, 2022, at age 87.

She was born to John Lee and Thelma Elizabeth Morden on July 25, 1935, in Olmstead, Arkansas.  She married the love of her life, John Calvin Clay of Searcy on September 16, 1954.  They were married for 62 years before John was called to heaven.  Together they had four beautiful children:  Anne Elizabeth; John Calvin, Jr. (Johnny); James David (Jimmy); and Barbara Jane.

Mabel loved cooking and was famous for her delicious brown beans and ham with fried cornbread.  She also loved quilting, fishing, gardening and growing her iris and daylily flowers.  She is the second in four generations of "Elizabeths".  She was a member of the Claremont Baptist Church in Sherwood.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne Elizabeth Fugatt (Terry); granddaughter Carolyn Elizabeth Alton (Jeff); grandson Michael Ray McCravey (Kristen); and grandson James Kinzy Clay (Heather) all of Conway, Arkansas; great grandson, Alex Mccravey of Heber Springs; a brother, Billy Morden (Linda) of Jacksonville, AR; and a sister Juanita Austin (Bobby) of Vilonia; and many great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mabel was a very special person and will be warmly remembered and greatly missed by many.
