Mabel Brown

On Friday, August 18, 2017, Mabel Brown, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and cherished friend, went to be with The Lord in His heavenly kingdom, to be reunited with family, loved ones and friends that went before her. She leaves behind her son, Grady Brown, Jr., and his wife, Jody; grandchildren, David Brown, Barbara Brown, Ashlynn Brown, Stacy---, Amanda Edwards, Christopher Nunnelly; and four great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Lillian, Ethan and Evelyn.
Mabel was very devoted to her family, always providing support and encouragement under any circumstances. She loved unconditionally.

She loved a party or a gathering, whether hosting or attending, especially the military functions. It is impossible to count how many she and Grady attended over the years. Mabel would dress to the hilt, mainly to make Grady proud of her....and he was. The Christmas Open House at Camp Robinson, hosted by Adjutant General of Arkansas, was one of her favorites because she could visit with the good friends she'd met over the years.

Mabel loved and was genuinely interested in all people she came in contact with. Consequently, she hosted hundred's of gatherings alongside Grady (who also loved all). They became known for their gatherings where Mabel served food she'd spent the week preparing by herself. At Christmas parties she served upwards of 150 friends and would not need help, enjoying every minute of it. Did I mention she was also known for her great cooking!

Mabel loved to play cards, particularly Bridge. She was a faithful supporter of St Jude's Hospital. Mabel volunteered for over30 years at the Veterans Home, providing bi-monthly birthday parties and bingo. She received numerous awards for her volunteer hours. She always made sure to talk to each veteran and ask, "How are you doing...do you need anything", etc. She was a member of VFW Post 4548 auxiliary. She was past president for two terms of AARP. She was a member and supporter of the Women's Auxiliary to the National Guard Association of Arkansas, in which she held the office of President. She was also nominated Woman of the Year for the auxiliary.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 24 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Services will be Friday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Russell Hildebrand. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Alexander. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Arkansas State Veterans Home.
