Lynn Allen Moore

Lynn Allen Moore, our Poppy, was called home to heaven June 19, 2023 at the age of 83. He was born in Bauxite, Arkansas on February 20, 1940 to James Allen Lee Moore and Ruth Ellen Robinette. His family relocated to Benton in 1953. After graduating from Benton High School, he attended University of Arkansas to study engineering. In 1959 he married Peggy McCutcheon and enlisted with the US Army to work at Redstone Rocket Facility in Huntsville, Alabama and was also deployed to Germany. He then worked for National Cash Register for many years.

Lynn volunteered to coach and led the Future Panther Vikings football team to many championships in the late 60’s through 70’s. In 1987 he began bi-annual mission trips to the Amazon rainforest to use his engineering talents to build churches and share the love of Jesus Christ with the people of Manaus, Brazil. Lynn proudly served multiple terms on Benton City Council and one term as the Mayor of Benton during the 9/11 attacks on our country. As mayor, Lynn worked on many projects, notably adding the two bridges and amphitheater at Tyndall Park. He also touched countless lives through volunteer projects in the Dixonville community and as a bus driver for the Benton School District for 22 years. Lynn was a founder of the nonprofit Saline Crossing organization with the aim to revitalize the old Saline River Bridge and develop a regional park.

Depending on the day of the week, you could find him at Burger Shack, Salem Dairy Bar, Riverside Grocery, Texas Roadhouse, or Arthur’s Steakhouse. He was a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church and then member of First Baptist Church where he taught the Seeker Sunday School class.

Lynn is preceded in death by his parents; Peggy, his wife of 57 years; two sisters, Dorothy Leola Henthorne and Lillian Glidewell; and one son, Timothy Allen Moore.

He is survived by his sweetheart, Sally Lou Verdier; his son, Brad Moore (Lexi); his sister, Linda Keaton; grandchildren: Megan Hercules (Jake), Cody Moore (Jesaka), Molly Harris (Zac), Hayley Moore, Mason Lockridge (Akira), Susanna Padilla (Estevan), and Madison Wilson (Travis); great-grandchildren: Tessa Deloach, Brinley Moore, Oliver and Ezra Lockridge; and many nieces and nephews.

Lynn will be remembered for his creative mind and ability to fix anything and everything. He once said “I have never had a boring day in my life”. He had a wonderful sense of humor and optimism that persisted even through his own health challenges. Most importantly, Lynn was a devoted Christian, always sure to share the love of Jesus and His Word, leading many people to Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:1 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
