Lynda Faye Settlemoir

Lynda Faye Settlemoir, 79, a long-time resident of Little Rock, AR, died peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2024, after a battle with leukemia. Lynda was born to the late Chester Elliott Blodget and Theda Faye Ledbetter Blodget on August 31, 1945, in Pensacola, FL.

Lynda was loved, admired by her family, many friends and will be missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Terry Keith Settlemoir, as well as her former husband Robert T. Forsythe, and their two daughters, Tiffany Forsythe Weatherly, Stephanie Forsythe Hernandez; son-in-law Ragan Hernandez; her four granddaughters, Taylor Bailey Hernandez, Tiffany Hannah Hernandez, Kate Lauren Weatherly, Anne Alexis Weatherly, other family members and friends. She loved her dogs, Emily, Emma, and Sophie, who passed before her. Winston, the French Bulldog, survives her.

When Lynda was three years old, she moved from the Navy base in Pensacola to Edinburg, Texas, where her father would be a partner in a law firm and was the mayor for 3 years. She would spend summers in Dallas, Texas, with her grandmother who spoiled her. When Lynda was eleven years old, she moved to Tulsa, OK. After graduation from high school in Tulsa, she earned her degree in teaching from Drury University at Springfield, Missouri, in 1967. She became a member of the Pi Beta Phi women’s fraternity. Oh, how she loved Pi Phi’s! She completed her master’s degree in education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) in 1985.

After graduation from Drury University, she helped start the Forsythe’s Ladies Apparel store in Little Rock, followed by a career in teaching home economics, biology, and science. She helped start the Pulaski Academy Early Childhood School with Ann Watson and later worked at Dillard’s as an Area Sales Manager. Wherever she was, Lynda was a natural magnet to children. They would always reach out to her, connecting her to them. Her cheerful spirit knew no stranger.

She and her closest friend, Judy Morris, had the best of times throughout the years. They raised their children together, and Lynda was Godmother to one of Judy’s twin boys, David Mandeville Morris. They had a wonderful trip in the early 70’s to the Williamsburg Antique Forum. The morning after the forum was over, there was a snow blizzard. Being Southern girls, they struck out driving south to Charleston. They were in snow all the way and even when they got to Charleston. This was a big disappointment. Everything was closed. About 15 years ago, they made another trip to Charleston and Savannah and there was no snow!

Lynda married Keith Settlemoir in 1984. They met at UALR where both needed a freshman government class for graduation. After graduating, Keith accepted an international position within Systematics in Little Rock. Soon thereafter, they moved to Helsinki, Finland, for one year, followed by a move to Singapore for 12 years. Lynda accepted teaching positions internationally, teaching middle school science in both Helsinki and the Singapore American School. She was also a member of the American Women’s Club in Singapore. After Singapore, they moved back to Little Rock. Lynda so enjoyed all the international travels and friends they made. Thrilled with adventure, she travelled to 30 countries during her time in Singapore.

Lynda was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, where she needlepointed the Alpha and Omega prayer cushions when St. James was first started. She also helped design the original stained-glass entry panels of the church. Always active, Lynda enjoyed playing tennis at the Little Rock Racquet Club with her good friends and teammates. She enjoyed her membership in the Twentieth Century Club, Little Rock Garden Club, and Mayflower Descendants. Lynda was an avid gardener, loved planting all varieties of flowers in the spring, and was well-known by the local Little Rock nurseries.

There will be a small service for immediate family members only.
