Luther Clayborn Jackson age 96 of Alpine went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 11, 2008. He was born January 23, 1912, the son of Chris and Maude Jackson. He was a member and deacon of Chalybeate Valley Missionary Baptist Church, a carpenter and furniture maker. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years Leonia Jackson, 5 sisters, Maggie Willis, Agnes Hill, Winnie Hill, Mollive Cash, Verda Mae Sorrells, four brothers, Virgil, Oscar, Lawerence, and Clarence Jackson.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years Gwendolyn Jackson, two sons Luther Jackson and wife Frankie of Alpine, Douglas Jackson and wife Marrietta of Lonoke, one stepson, Larry Golden and his wife Bobbie of Hot Springs, one daughter Wanda Ward and husband Gerald of Alpine, 2 step daughters, Sue Reed and husband Wayne of Bigelow, and Patsy Goodman and husband Tony of Royal, one sister Hathia Pennington of Arkadelphia, 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Thursday in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bobbie Golden, Brother Jackie Herring, and Brother Melvin Markham officiating. Burial will be in the Alpine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday evening at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home.
