Luther "George" Coleman York, 79, of Ward, Arkansas, passed away on March 8, 2022 at Baptist Springhill Medical Center. He was born to Coy and Evie Fisher York on September 3, 1942. Early in his youth, he joined the army and then joined the Marines soon after, having served in the Vietnam War. He would receive a Purple Heart due to injuries sustained during this time. In the early eighties, he met the love of his life, Tammy Hunthrop, and they were married on May 29, 1984.
Luther enjoyed attending auctions, junking, traveling, fishing, and was known as a "peddler"; he was always busy doing something. He was of the Penecostal faith. And his biggest joys in life evolved around his family.
He is preceded in death by a son, Jerry York; his parents; sister, Juanita Wells; two brothers, W.D. Buddy York and Wayne York.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 37 years, Tammy York; daughters Shannon Stone, Ashea Roller, Sabra Cupples (Jeff), and Casey York; 8 grand-children, 3 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sheilia Lovil (Charles) and Vickie McCammon (James); and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 10:00am with a service to follow at 11:00am in the Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at 1:00pm at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in Sherwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made in Luther's name to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 1235 South Clark St. Suite 910, Arlington, VA 22202 or a veteran nonprofit of their choice.
