Lt. Finn

Lt. Col. Robert (Bob) J. Finn, 77, of Sherwood passed away Thursday, September 3, 2009. He met the love of his life at the University of Kentucky at Lexington where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, and he completed all but his thesis at UALR toward a Masters of Public Administration.
He proudly served 23 years in the United States Air Force, where he earned respect and recognition for his service. In addition to having the privilege of serving his country, he earned the following medals: the Joint Services Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Air Force Longevity Service Award, the Small Arms Expert Marksman Award, the National Defense Service Medal, and the 1974 Meritorious Service Medal.
He later served in state government at the Department of Health and the Department of Human Services, then retired from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality in May 2000.
He enjoyed a great love of the arts - especially books, music, and movies. He did his best to adhere to high standards for hard work, education, and honest dealings. He was known for his kindhearted nature, and - most of all - for his irrepressible playfulness and his sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nancy Rose Finn, and his older brother, Thomas Finn. He is survived by his older sister, Flora Brooks, and his wife of 53 years, Hettie Finn. He is also survived by three children, Mark Finn, of Collingswood, New Jersey, Kimberly Finn of North Little Rock; and Dr. Gregory Finn, of St. Louis, Missouri, and six grandchildren, Kevin, Stephen, Katherine, Kyle, Abby, and Ethan Finn.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123-1718 or call 1-800-227-2345.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel with Robert Wingfield officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. till 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Tompkinsville, Kentucky.
