Loy Dean Morphew, age 89, of Langley, passed away in Hot Springs on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.

 

He was born on April 30, 1933, in Langley, the third of eleven children born to Millard Roosevelt and Nettie Pearl (Miller) Morphew. 

 

On April 9, 1952, he married Jessie Nell Hays of Norman, who preceded him in death on January 22, 2010. Later he served in the U.S Army during the Korean era. Afterwards, he went to trade school and became an auto mechanic, in 1968 he owned and operated Dean Morphew’s Auto Repair in Texarkana, Arkansas until retiring and moving back to his hometown of Langley Arkansas.

 

Dean’s hobbies were hunting, fishing, and gardening.  He was known for having a big garden every year until he was no longer able.  His favorite pastime was visiting with friends on Facebook, watching deer in his yard, and being with his dog Pike.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Jessie Nell Morphew.

 

He is survived by his three children; one daughter Phyllis Karen and husband Ron Barlow of Lodi, two sons Jeffrey Dean and wife Lisa Morphew of Langley, and Steven Gene and wife Maleta Bruce of DeQueen. Nine grandchildren, Chris (Trisha) Sims, Nathaniel (Tara) Sims, Cookie (Lee) Hart, Thomas Morphew, Heather (Gerald) Palmer, Joy (Anthony) Ervin, Samuel (Bailey) Morphew, Ronnie (Amanda) Barlow, and Jacob (Beth) Smuz, and sixteen great grandchildren. His ten siblings: LaVelle Vaught, LaVerne Widener, Bill Morphew, Maye Pate, Faye Holmes, Shirley (Marvin) Blair, Vonda Vines, Bob (Patsy) Morphew, Terry (Pat) Morphew and Larry Morphew. Two sisters in laws, Jolene Hays, and Sue Hays. He has numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; cousins and extended family members; and many wonderful friends. 

 

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday December 27, 2022, in the Smith Family Funeral Home-Glenwood and burial at the Langley Hall Cemetery with Pastor Gerald Palmer officiating.

 

Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, 209 North 3rd Street, Glenwood, Arkansas.

 

Pallbearers will be grandsons Nathaniel Sims, Lee Hart, Thomas Morphew, Samuel Morphew and Ronnie Barlow and nephew Tony Morphew. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Langley Hall Cemetery, c/o 2667 Hwy 84 West, Umpire, AR 71971.
