Lourdes C. Tanglao, a beloved mother, sister and an inspiring figure in her community, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on May 17, 1939, in Tarlac, Philippines, she immigrated to the United States in 1980, bringing with her an unwavering spirit and a deep commitment to her work and faith.
Lourdes dedicated nearly four decades of her life to New York University, where her remarkable work ethic shone brightly. From the age of 17 until her retirement, she poured her heart into her endeavors, earning both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees through NYU. For Lourdes, work was not just a job; it was a source of pride and purpose. She found joy in her responsibilities, serving as both a testament to her determination and a reflection of her character.
She was a devoted Eucharist Minister, walking to church daily on the NYU campus, where she connected with her faith and her community. Lourdes often spoke of how meaningful these moments were to her, reinforcing the values of service and gratitude that defined her life.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Lourdes had a passion for gardening, finding solace and satisfaction in nurturing life through her plants. This love for nature mirrored her nurturing spirit, as she also took great pride in her close ties with family. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Baillie, her brother, Joseph (Amanda) Tanglao, her sister, Teresita (Edwin) Capitulo, and many nieces and nephews who cherished her guiding presence in their lives.
Lourdes joins her parents, Ponciano Tanglao and Emiliana Cura, in eternal rest, along with her brothers and sister—Charlie (Yolanda) Tanglao, Marina (Richard) Baildon, Felipe (Eden) Tanglao, Edgar Tanglao, and Jesus (Alisha) Tanglao. Their memories will forever be intertwined with hers, as the family she loved dearly now welcomes her with open arms.
The legacy of Lourdes extends far beyond her professional achievements; it lies within the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege to know her. As we celebrate her life, we are reminded of her tenacity, the warmth of her spirit, and her profound love for her family, country, and faith. She was truly proud to be an American, and she will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
Visitation services for Lourdes will be held on March 14, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Smith Family Funeral Home in Hot Springs, Arkansas. A funeral service will follow from 10:00 AM at the same location.
