Louise Melton

Louise Melton, 90 of North Little Rock passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011. She was born in 1920 in Monroe, Arkansas. She was a member of Park Hill Baptist Church for 61 years where she served in many leadership roles including several terms as president of the Women's Missionary Union. She was a life member of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College where she was president of her sorority, Alpha Sigma Tau and was a state champion debater. Louise was a natural public speaker, an entertainer, and known especially for her impressions of Minnie Pearl from the Grand Ole Opry.
She was predeceased by her parents, P.W. and Virginia Meacham; brothers, Cowan, Kirby and Matthew Meacham, all of Monroe, Arkansas. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Ellis (Gene) Melton; two sons, Ellis Melton Jr. and wife, Kay, of Fayetteville and Presley Melton and wife Jo, of North Little Rock; daughter, Ginger Smith and husband, Danny, of Russellville; five grandsons, Brian Smith, Jason Smith, Andrew Melton, Mark Melton and Adam Melton; four great-grandchildren; brother, Wiley Meacham, of Brinkley and sister, Barbara Jarvis, of Little Rock.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday in the North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m., in Brinkley, Arkansas at Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest registry at www.nlrfh.com.
