Louis Edward Meyers, Jr.

Louis Edward Meyers, Jr.

Mr. Louis Edward Meyers, Jr., 79, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday evening, November 13, 2024 at the VA Hospital in Little Rock. He was loved by many and a faithful member of the First Pentecostal Church of North Little Rock for over 25 years.

He was born in Texarkana, Arkansas and grew up in North Little Rock with a somewhat difficult childhood. While in high school, a shop teacher concluded that he had potential, and from then on, he really worked to achieve something in life. He followed in the footsteps of his father and went to college for print management.

After graduating from college, with the Vietnam War raging, he volunteered to go directly into the army because of his love for his country. During the war, he worked in intelligence and rose to the rank of a Captain. He served in the 25th Infantry and the Military Assistance Command (MACV). He was in active duty for two years and then returned to the US as part of the National Guard in Illinois for several years. During this time he started his career in the print industry. He was very successful and flew all over the country helping different companies get started. He was an organizer, both at home and in his line of work.

While growing up, he did not attend church regularly and really did not know much about God. In the early 90s he received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost while praying with Sis. Agnes Holmes and that forever changed his life. He cared for his wife of 40 years extremely well and even brought Jan to church many services in a wheelchair. After she passed, he helped with the Bible Bookstore and did a lot of shopping for the cafe, school and camp meeting. He helped in the church wherever he was needed and even helped to build the church elevators.

During this time, God sent him a special gift. Mrs. Gloria Ezell’s husband had passed. She came to Little Rock to see her son and met Louis. They were married within less than two months, and have truly loved each other. Together they have been a blessing to other people. Among many other things, they have very faithfully attended daily prayer at the church and have taken care packages to many of the elderly and sick.

Her children became the children he never had. He had great compassion for them when he saw a need in their lives. He gave them hope that they could also rise above life’s obstacles and overcome anything it handed them.

He is preceded in death by his beloved son Darron Keith Ezell, parents Louis Meyers, Sr. and Opal Johnson Meyers, two sisters Betty and Jan, and first wife Jan (Evelyn Janette).

He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Gloria Gill Ezell Meyers; sons Sherwood Ezell and wife Terri, Greg Ezell and wife Angela, all of Sherwood, Brandon Ezell and wife Kim of Delhi, Louisiana; daughter Wendy James and husband Mike of Columbia, Tennessee. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Ashley Wheeler and husband Sam, Taylor Ezell and wife Madison, Lauren Johnson and husband Mario, Hailey Orten and husband Cody, Austin Ezell and wife Jessie, Cheyenne Haghighi and husband Amir, Regina Medlin and husband Connor, Amber Bryant and husband Derek, Caitlin Ezell, Isaac Ezell, Autumn Ezell, Karsyn Ezell, Lillian Reynolds and Trusten Reynolds. He was blessed with great grandchildren Oakley, Margo, Lincoln, Drew, Ellery Rose, Caroline, Josie, and Maggie Rae.

The nurses and doctors witnessed the presence of God in his room at the end. The family would like to thank the workers at the VA and Baptist Hospitals for their excellent care during his illness the past several months. Louis was an unsung hero in our midst and someone that his family and friends can be very proud of. He was a strong man with a tender heart and great sense of duty toward his family, church and country.
