Lorraine Hensley

Vivian Lorraine Jones Walsh Hensley, 91, found peace on April 30, 2020.

Lorraine is survived by daughter Cindy Milazzo (Ron) of Maumelle, son Francis Walsh (Yvonne) of Illinois; grandchildren Chanda Freeman of Maumelle, Joseph Walsh, Christopher Walsh, Margaret Miller, Scott Walsh and Philip Milazzo, all of Illinois;  great grandchildren Tyler Freeman, Echo Breanna Freeman,  Kaylee Milazzo,  Caroline Miller, Louis Miller and other extended family.  She was preceded in death by husband Donald Hensley, parents Charles and Nellie Jones (nee Ciloninger), sister Pauline and grandson Timothy.

Lorraine was born on December 26, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri.  She graduated from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville in 1974 with a Master’s degree in Behavioral Sciences. Her sharp wit, brilliant mind and tenderness towards others enriched everyone she knew.

Her professional life was spent as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).  She served in private and public capacities in Illinois and in public entities after relocating to Arkansas.

Lorraine was accomplished in many things, but especially enjoyed gardening.  She has been a long time member of Maumelle Newcomers Club and a Lifetime Arkansas Master Gardener.  She enjoyed the Newcomers Book Club and utilized her talents as a Master Gardener in both Montgomery and Pulaski Counties.  Her favorite charities were Libraries and Food Banks wherever she lived.

The family would like to thank Drs. Ann Riggs, John Dornhoffer and Manish Joshi, all of UAMS, for years of outstanding medical care allowing the best possible quality of life for years despite chronic health issues and the entire team at  Arkansas Hospice, especially Ashley Hammons, for excellent care the last several months of her life.  When she became unable to live alone, The Lakes at Maumelle staff were very caring, attentive and responsive.

Covid-19 precludes visitation.  A private Celebration of Life will be held for family at a later date.   If so inclined, please honor her memory by sending donations to the Central Arkansas Library (CALS) Foundation Book Lovers Club (www.cals.org/giving , or 100 Rock Street, Little Rock, AR  72205) or the Arkansas Food Bank (4301 W 65th St, Little Rock, AR  72209).
