Lorene “Nanny” Whisenhunt, age 93, of Newhope, passed away Friday, July 2, 2021.
She was born on March 28, 1928, in Newhope, the daughter of Willis Fletcher Rodgers and Myra Jane O’Neal Rodgers. On August 10, 1946, she was married to Tribble Whisenhunt, who preceded her in death on July 16, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Karen Peters and Connie Mack; one son, Keith Whisenhunt; one sister, Lee Davis; and two brothers, Thurman Rodgers and Loy Dean Rodgers; and one son-in-law, Wayne Peters.
Lorene was a 1946 graduate of Newhope High School where she was valedictorian of her class. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, camping, fishing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nanny also enjoyed taking walks and traveling with family on vacation trips. She was a strong woman who loved her Lord and set a Christian example for those she loved. A longtime member of the Daisy Free Will Baptist Church, Nanny will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Kevin Miller of Newhope; one son-in-law and his wife, Travis and Theresa Mack of Nashville; one daughter-in-law, Sarah Whisenhunt of Umpire; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Janna and Jose Rodriguez, Shanna and Stephen Coleman, Tammy and Tim Kaumans, Brian Whisenhunt, Glenn and Amanda Mack, Clint and Katie Peters, Kandi and Brandon Laney, Karli and Todd Young, Kerri and Christopher Sweeney and Michelle Paull; twenty-three great-grandchildren, Jose, Jr., Celina, Chance, Thayne, Taylee, Tristen, Skylar, Harley, Damion, Elle, Levi, Ruby, Van, Logan, Bentley, Kyleigh, Caden, Marianna, Adi, Sawyer, Sydnee, Shawn and Cal, who is on the way; her sister-in-law, Ethel Pinkerton of Newhope; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 6, 2021, in the Daisy Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Kevin Jewell officiating.
Visitation will be Monday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Mount Joy Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Whisenhunt, Mike Whisenhunt, Jerry Roan, David Smith, David Whisenhunt and Brady Whisenhunt.
Honorary pallbearers will be the nurses and staff of Glenwood Health and Rehabilitation and Kindred Hospice.
Memorials may be made to the Mount Joy Cemetery Fund, 3791 Hwy 70 West, Kirby, Arkansas 71950.
