On the Lord’s Day, September 4, 2022, Linda Lou Highfill’s soul departed her mortal body and entered eternal rest with Jesus Christ. Linda (known as Mamaw by her grandchildren) battled Alzheimers in her last days, but she was daily surrounded by those she loved. And that is how she died – surrounded by loved ones.
Born in 1942 in Morganton, Arkansas, Linda's memories included household chores common in rural Arkansas during that time and traveling the region to pick cotton during picking season. She graduated from South Side Bee Branch High School in 1960 and retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs after 38 years of service. By outward appearances she lived a very ordinary life, but to her children she was extraordinary. Her devotion, selflessness, and care for her family left an indelible impression on her family.
Linda is lovingly remembered by her husband of 46 years, Jim, her children Chad (Kelly) currently of North Carolina and Todd (Ashley) of Arkansas, and her 11 grandchildren: Joel, Aryanna, Anna, Abby, William, Addison, John, Gwenevere, Tyler, Asher, and Adelaide. She is also survived by sisters Christine Thrasher and Amilee Ward, of Conway, Arkansas. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, R.B. and Beatrice Pike, and her brothers, Dean and Kenneth (Kenneth by one day).
Funeral will begin at 11:30, on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
