Lilly Fisher, our precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Friday, January 13, 2023.
Lilly was born on May 28, 1929, in Tyler Texas, the third of twelve children. She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband of forty-four years, E.J. Fisher and by her grandson, D.J. Wellner. She was also proceeded in death by her parents, Denzil Evenda Capps and Bertha Beatrice Capps, and by five siblings, Ray Capps, Donna Mount, James “Millege” Capps, Bertha Mitchell, and Donald Capps.
Lilly was a long-time resident of Booneville, Arkansas, where she worked at the Arkansas Tuberculosis Sanitorium as an assistant for Dr. Riley. She met E.J., who was also working at the sanitorium and, after they married, moved briefly to Indiana where two of her children were born. Two more children were born after the family moved to Plainfield Illinois where she and E.J. lived for thirty-three years before moving back to Booneville.
After E.J.'s death in 1993, Lilly moved to Royal, Arkansas where she lived for the remainder of her life.
While married and while raising four children Lilly studied for and got her G.E.D., attended beauty school and became a licensed beautician, working at Goldblatt's in Crest Hill, Illinois. She also worked at Lakewood Nursing Home and owned an antique shop in Plainfield before moving to Arkansas.
Lilly was a devout Methodist and attended Jessie Walker (now Hope) Methodist Church in Plainfield, Illinois and attended First Methodist Church in Booneville, Arkansas. She was a member of the Piney Grove United Methodist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas and was a member of the Wesley Sunday School class.
Lilly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and especially enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, and was an avid genealogy researcher who could trace her family roots back for multiple generations.
She was a member of Booneville Historical Preservation Society while living in Booneville and a member of the Friends of the Garland County Library for over twenty-five years.
She is survived by four children, Don (Lynn) Fisher, Terry Askew, Karen Wellner, and Sharon Fisher., eight grandchildren, Maggie (Andrew) Descary, Jessica (Ian) Joulain, Lauren (Zack) Chichelo, Mark Askew, Jeff (Stephanie) Askew, Bob Askew, Rick Wellner, and Ericka (Dustin) Koulis, sixteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by six siblings, Charlie Capps, Mary McKinnon,Wilburn Capps, Jean Mustard, Louise Lowe, and Sue Loy. She also leaves behind her beloved Shih Tzu Max.
Lilly lived a life full of wit, graciousness, and love. She will be missed by all.
Pallbearers will be Mark Askew, Jeff Askew, Bob Askew, Jayden Askew, Dustin Koulis, and Robert Mitchell.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Arkansas Hospice and especially to Debbie Watson and Ann Davis.
Visitation will be 5:00PM until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 18, 2023, in the Smith Family Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
Remembrance service will be 10:00AM, Thursday, January 19, 2023, with David Stewart officiating in the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs.
A graveside service will be 2:00PM, Thursday, in the Liberty Cemetery in Magazine, Arkansas with James Isaacs officiating.
