Lilly Belle Davis Ellington, 92 of Mabelvale was called Home by the Lord January fifth. She was an accomplished seamstress who created and altered hundreds of garments, from designing and sewing all her own clothing and the clothing for her girls, to cheer squad outfits and elegant evening gowns, including one worn by a Miss. Arkansas contestant in her on air competition in the Miss America Pageant. She spent many years performing her "magic" first at home, then in alterations at Dillards, Feinsteins and Barbara Jean, Ltd. She was honored to have had the wives of two former U.S. Presidents as her clients.
If you asked Miss. Lilly what she enjoyed more, eating fish or catching them, it was difficult for her to choose, since many days she would be found on the bank of her favorite fishing hole. A big fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals, she loved going to their games and watching them on television. Following her retirement she found much joy creating crafts in many forms for friends and family. She also loved to travel with chartered travel groups on cruises and tours around the world, making many new friends along the way.
She was preceded on this final journey by her loving husband, Clyde Ellington, her parents, Rutherford B. and Missouri Belle Davis, ten brothers and sisters and a great-granddaughter, Heather. She leaves to cherish her memory, five children, Denva Glaze and husband, Johnny, of North Little Rock, Leslie Spillman and wife Lorraine of Spokane, WA, Marilyn White of Springdale, AR, Janet Harrell and husband, Bobby, of Sherwood and Johnny Ellington of Little Rock, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, two nieces and a host of friends.
Due to disability and health issues, she had been a resident of Premier Health and Rehab, NLR since July, 2008. The family wishes to extend our greatest gratitude to the staff for the tender loving care given to our Mother.
Services to share her life's memories will be held Saturday, January 9, at 1:00 p.m. at Huson Funeral Home Chapel at 7700 Hwy 107, Sherwood, with her son in law Rev. Johnny Glaze officiating. Interment will be at Edgewood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Huson Funeral Home in Sherwood.
She was a member of Little Rock Community Church where memorials may be made at PO Box 164254, Little Rock, AR 72216.
