Lillian Kitchell McGee, 92, of Ft. Worth, TX, joyfully went home to be with her Lord on December 22, 2020.
Lillian was devoted to her family and church family, and enjoyed music, gardening, reading and studying, traveling, and nature. Most of all she adored her grand and great-grandchildren and loved nothing more than to be with them. She was both a servant and a quiet leader, voluntarily stepping in where ever she was needed without show. She served her God to the best of her ability all of her life, and her family and friends were blessed by her sweet, gentle nature and her desire to help and teach others. It was also a treat to listen to her Mississippi Delta accent!
Lillian was born on April 4, 1928 in Greenwood, MS, where she grew up. She graduated valedictorian of her high school class and earned a degree in history and speech from Mississippi State College for Women. She became a military wife when she married Jack McGee in 1950 and his career allowed them to have friends and connections in churches all over the United States. Lillian used their many transfers as educational opportunities for the family and founded a Brownie Scout troop on one air base and a Girl Scout troop on another.
The last military assignment was Jacksonville AFB, AR, and the family settled in North Little Rock where Lillian lived for the next 50 years. She was a faithful member of the Levy Church of Christ and a Bible educator for children and adults. While serving as director of the children’s primary department, she developed a complete primary school Bible class curriculum that was used for many years. She also wrote a column for the church bulletin. Lillian went on mission trips to Jamaica and Russia, and for many years volunteered at the River City Ministry of North Little Rock, teaching Bible classes and helping in the clinic.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Heaven is rejoicing!
Lillian is survived by her three children: Sally (Burt) Allinder, Nancy McGee, and Cliff (Judy) McGee; her grandchildren: Elaine (Jason) Hughs, Melissa (Rush) Cornwell, Jonathan McGee, Jacob McGee, and Leeanna (Sean) Taylor; her great-grandchildren: Jillian McGee-Heitz, Ozzy McGee, Rebekah Hughs, Morgan Hughs, Brian Hughs, Ashlen Cornwell, and Leighton Cornwell; by her sister Catherine (Malcolm) Sutherland, nine nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents Horace and Lillian Kitchell, her husband Lt. Colonel William Jack McGee, her two brothers Horace and Joseph Kitchell, and her young great-grandson Cason Hughs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to River City Ministry, Paragould Children’s Home through Levy Church of Christ or Levy Church of Christ Ministries.
Visitation will be at Levy Church of Christ, North Little Rock from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 30, 2020, followed by the funeral at 11:00 AM. Interment will begin at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Alexander.
