Lewis Sanders Rauton, 98, died in Little Rock on Thursday, January 16, 2020. Lew was a Real Estate Developer in the Little Rock area where he designed and built Apartments, office buildings and residential homes in the 60’s and 70’s.
Proud and determined he was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock. Lewis was married to Margaret Elizabeth CarlLee until her death in 2009. They had three children, a son, Lewis Edward Randolph Rauton (deceased), daughters Jessica R. Rooney (Mrs. Thomas Rooney) of North Little Rock; Lissa Margaret Brashear; (Mrs. David O’Neil Brashear) of South Carolina. Lewis had five grandchildren, Drew Brashear of North Carolina (wife Jill and their children Grace And Michael), Lauren Whitehead (husband Greg and their children Sailor and Gavin), Maggie Thompson of Maumelle (husband Geoff and their children Connor and Callum), Patrick Rooney of North Little Rock (deceased) and Charles Rauton of Atlanta.
Lewis was a Lieutenant, j.g., in the United States Navy aboard the USS Tennessee in the Pacific during World War II. The battleship was on nine beachhead landings earning nine battle stars, one Presidential Unit Citation, and nine Pacific Theater ribbons for victorious service.
Lewis graduated from University of Arkansas Fayetteville and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He also enjoyed music arrangement for his preceding school, Newberry College, where he played Trombone in a swing band that played up and down the east coast.
He lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for 37 years with his wife “Deatie”. In recent years he was a participant in the AETN Veterans in Washington DC tour (2006) and gave an interview to PBS “In Their Words” AETN.org.
He was always planning and directing REMANCO employees to update and find pride in their labors.
