It is with great sorrow, we advise of the passing of Lewis Eugene "Gene" Broglen, age 95, on January 7, 2024. He is, however, now in Heaven with his beloved son, James Richard, who preceded him in death. Lewis was born July 10, 1928 to Ezra and Delia Broglen in Batesville, AR. He was the 3rd of 5 children, with 3 brothers and 1 sister.
On May 5th, 1950, he married his one true love, Ethel Arletta Henderson and enjoyed 73 years of marriage. This union produced 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
After moving to North Little Rock in 1957, he and his family faithfully attended Berean Baptist Church. He was also a member of the local Masonic Lodge.
Lewis began his career with the Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1951 and after 4 decades of service, he retired as a Bridge & Building Superintendent headquartered in North Little Rock. He never felt this was a job, as he loved trains, and collected models, pictures, books, and countless memorabilia.
Lewis was a master gardener, known for his strawberries and tomatoes, as well as his carpentry skills. After retiring from the railroad, he opened a small shop he called Lewis' Saw Sharpening Service, and for years serviced many customers in the community with chainsaws, table saws, clippers....anything with a blade.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice Home Care for taking such good care of him.
A visitation will be held for Gene 12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home with a service to follow at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at Carter Cemetery in White County, AR
