Leonard Buchholz, age 87, of Hot Springs, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
He was born on July 31, 1937, in St. Louis, MO. He was the son of William and Lillian Buchholz. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Thomas Buchholz and Donald Buchholz; his sister, Delores Bartlett; and his daughter, Sarah Jane Key.
Hot Springs lost one of it's brightest characters this week with the passing of Leonard Buchholz. Leonard was an avid ski enthusiast balancing his love of snow filled mountains with the sunshine and boating on Lake Mead outside of Las Vegas, NV. Leonard was a frequent visitor to Moby Grape, his favorite neighborhood pub. While there, he could be found cheering his beloved Raiders or UNLV Rebels. He was a Navy Veteran whose service to his country was an immense source of pride. Leonard ran a very successful commercial flooring company, Universal Flooring, in Las Vegas for many years before retiring to Hot Springs.
At home, Leonard was a family man who cherished his very spoiled dogs and looked forward to delicious Sunday dinners. His family recently finished Leonard's last puzzle during off times from holding vigil in the hospital, a fitting tribute to an avid puzzler. A master of the dad jokes, Leonard never missed a chance to lighten the mood. Among a few of the more frequently quoted and most notables were "Burger King, have it your way" and "I'll have the turtle soup and make it snappy." His humor and warmth will be sorely missed by all who know him. Leonard leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love and faith in God and countless memories that will be cherished by his family and friends.
He is survived by his five sons, Leonard George (Konomi) Buchholz, Jr. of Vista, CA, John (Carol) Buchholz of Fairfax, CA; Ken (Dale) Buchholz of St. Louis, MO, Chad Buchholz, of St. Louis, MO, Kurt (Julie) Buchholz of St. Louis, MO; his four daughters, Nancy Parker of St. Louis, MO, Geraldine “Geri” (Jim) Sehnert of Rochester, NY, Sherri (Tom) Milsap of Hot Springs, and Kerri Price of Hot Springs; his twenty four grandchildren, Jill Brewer, Carol Merkey, Cody Buchholz, Max Buchholz, Sam Buchholz, Caroline Buchholz, Paige Buchholz, Vincent Buchholz, Curtis Buchholz, Ben Buchholz, Alex Buchholz, Ira Buchholz, Katie Buchholz, Janessa Hotop, Hannah Parker, Jake Sehnert, Maddy Sehnert, Cassandra Key, Randi Key, Tyler Kinder, Trevor Milsap, Hailiann Milsap, Logan Price, and KaraLynn Martin; sixteen great-grandchildren; ; his three sisters, Norma Thiel of St. Louis, MO, Antionette Speraneo of Greenville, IL, and Rose Marie (Robert) Chapman of St. Louis, MO; along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John's Church School, or by taking a moment to appreciate the simple joy of a good Dad joke.
A special thank you to the lovely staff at Greg's Rise and Dine Cafe, Leonard's home away from home.
