Leonard Clarence ?Mac? McBryde of North Little Rock died on July 21, 2008. He was born February 11, 1924 in Monticello, Arkansas and grew up in the community of Palmyra. Mac worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young adult and in various places around the country. He served in the Army in World War II and the Korean War and after his military service, received the Bronze Medal of Honor. He worked for Southwestern Bell and retired after 38 years. He served as President of the Southwestern Bell Pioneers and volunteered around the community building wheelchair ramps and bat boxes. Mac was a 32nd degree Mason with the Pine Bluff Masonic Lodge AFAM #69, a founding member of the Amboy Methodist Church and member of Lakewood United Methodist Church.
He married Donna Marie Deam, the love of his life, on December 18, 1948. They raised their family and resided in North Little Rock. Mac taught his family to love the outdoors, and as a family they enjoyed camping, swimming, skiing and hunting together. He loved working in his garden and would never turn down a summer Arkansas tomato.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clan C. McBryde, his stepmother, Ruby McBryde and his mother, Mollie Weatherford. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna Deam McBryde; children, Cliff McBryde, wife Sherry, Barbara Dozier, husband Ed, all of North Little Rock, and Donald McBryde, wife Judy of Weatherford, Texas; grandchildren, Shea Wood, husband Brandon, Marty Heard, husband Dan Heard, Elyse McBryde, all of North Little Rock, Emerson McBryde, wife Christie of Morrilton, Arkansas, Tracy Lane, husband Tim of Burleson, Texas; great-grandchildren: Grace, Alli, Leigha, Austyn, Kate, Hudson and Noah; sisters Hazel Saffold and husband Kenneth, Leona Eubanks and husband Eddie both of Monticello, Arkansas; step-sisters Eloise Harris and Loretta Harmon, husband Paul, both of Monticello; step-brother Eugene Boyd of Brentwood, California, plus a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed!
A memorial service honoring his life will be on Friday, July 25 at 2 p.m. at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170. Visitation will be immediately following the memorial service.
