Leonard Anseaume

A proud World War II Veteran, Leonard Eugene Anseaume, Sr., (91) son of the late Frank and Gertrude Ray Anseaume was born in Plattsburg, Missouri and went to be with his beautiful bride in heaven on Sunday, September 7, 2014 in Hospice Care at Little Rock Veterans Hospital.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Rachel Davis Anseaume; brothers: Louis, Howard, Robert, Raymond, Walter, Ralph Anseaume. He is survived by his son, Leonard Anseaume, Jr.; daughter, Joannie Tindall (Jerry); two sisters, Gertrude McGuire (Aros) and Sue Murphy; grandsons: Sean Anseaume, Justin Tindall, Brandon Anseaume, Bryce Hilton, Connor McAdoo; granddaughters: Jessica McAdoo (Justin), Belinda Hilton, Heather Anseaume; daughter-in-law, Ellen Shaddon; and a nephew, Frank Anseaume.
Leonard enlisted in the Army in 1941. He served in the Aleutian Islands, Dutch Harbor, Adak, and Kiska and was awarded one bronze star. He served in Northern France and was awarded another bronze star. He served in Belgian-France, Rhineland, Germany in the Battle of the Bulge with 106 Division and President Roosevelt awarded 106 Division a citation for that action. He received an honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant; he served as a Platoon Sergeant and was awarded a combat badge. He was twice offered a battlefield commission from General Leonard T. Geroe and Lieutenant General George S. Patton. He transferred to General Patton's Headquarters 15th Army. He was honorably discharged from the 15th Army. He proudly served his country. Due to the sacrifices of his generation, we are able to enjoy freedom from tyranny.
Leonard retired as an Engineer from the Veteran Hospital after 39 ½ years to care for his grandson, Justin. Some of his welding can still be admired at the North Little Rock Veterans Hospital. He liked to give back. He was honored as parent of the year in the North Little Rock School District for volunteer hours. He built a small courtyard at Rose City Middle School, where he taught a life science class. He created a life-size garden which the students harvested. He was featured on Weekend Gardner for his green thumb skill. He built book cases, benches and did welding at Boone Park Elementary. He was a member of the Levy VFW Post 11474. He volunteered to teach welding at Pulaski Technical College for 2 years. Leonard received numerous awards for his service to the community.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ft. Roots and McClellan Hospital for the compassionate nurses, especially Mike Morine who treated us like family.
