Leona Bird

Leona Mildred "Mickey" Bird of North Little Rock departed this life Monday, September 1, 2008. She was born in Three Rivers, Michigan on August 5, 1918, and recently celebrated her 90th birthday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Ada Bell; one sister, Lucinda Swihart and her husband of 47 years, Frank H. Bird.
Mickey was a bookkeeper for many years at Gold's House of Fashion and Parkin Printing in Little Rock. In her later years until the age 85 she worked for Care Link.
Mickey was Past President of NLR PTA Council and served on several Boards of Arkansas PTA. She was past Worthy Matron of Jewel Chapter and Florence Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was Past Grand Representative of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as Banquet Ticket Sales Chairman for numerous years. Mickey was a Past Mother Advisor and Past Chairman of the Advisory Board of Jewel Rainbow Assembly and a member of the Grand Cross of Color.
Left to cherish her memories are her three daughters, Pat McKay of Jacksonville, Rosemary Burks and her husband William of Jacksonville and Jeannie Price and her husband John of North Little Rock. As well as five grandchildren, James McKay Jr, John McKay, Mimi McKay, Marianne Price and Jennifer Price.
The family would like to extend a special appreciation for the care and friendliness that Leona received from the staff at Woodland Hills Nursing Facility in Jacksonville. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family will visit with friends from 6-8PM Thursday September 4, 2008 at Huson Funeral Home, 7700 Hwy 107 in Sherwood. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM Friday, September 5, 2008 in the chapel of Huson Funeral Home with interment to follow at Little Rock National Cemetery.
