Lendol Jewel Holcomb, age 78, died July 4, 2009 at his home in Arkadelphia. He was born February 11, 1931 in the Fendley Community of Clark County to Jewel Rush and Amy Cora Kirksey Holcomb.

Lendol served in the United States Army from February 1952 to February 1954 and was stationed in Munich, Germany. Upon release from the army, in April 1954 he went to work for the Arkadelphia Police Department. During this time he met Mary Dixon, his future wife, whom he married on September 25, 1954.

On August 1, 1955 Lendol went to work for Sheriff Burin Hardin with the Clark County Sheriff's Office. August 1, 1957, Lendol became a trooper with the Arkansas State Police, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He was a proud, loyal, and dedicated Trooper, stationed in Hot Spring, Clark, and Grant County until his retirement August 1, 1987. Sergeant Holcomb was one of the most respected law enforcement officers ever to serve this area, He touched the lives of so many people, not only as a public servant, but also as a friend and neighbor. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Vernon, Charles, and Gerald, and sisters, Verlon Floyd and Fern Ainsworth.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his son Dennis Holcomb of Malvern, two daughters, Marsha Allgood of Arkadelphia, and Lisa Reynolds and her husband Mike of Magnet Cove, his grandchildren, the "lights of his life", Hailey Allgood of Arkadelphia and Carson Reynolds of Magnet Cove, three brothers, Gene Holcomb and his wife Linda of Pearcy, Larry Holcomb and his wife Carolyn of Hot Springs, and Wayne Holcomb and his wife Patricia of Arkadelphia, sisters Ruth Partridge of Arkadelphia, Evelyn Allen of Bismarck, and Naomi Carson and her husband Cliff of Hampton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Tuesday, July 7, in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Brother J. C. Patterson and Brother Charles Hargett officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in the Fendley Community near Alpine. Pallbearers will be the Arkansas State Police Color Guard. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 P.M. Monday, July 6, in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.
