Lavona Lee Rowett, 77, of North Little Rock died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, following a series of illnesses that she battled courageously. Her passing will leave a tremendous void in the lives of all she loved and who also loved her dearly.
Lavona was born April 22, 1933, in Kaufman, Texas. An honors graduate of W.H. Adamson High School in Dallas, Texas, she earned a bachelor's degree from North Texas State University. Lavona excelled in her professional career and demonstrated dedication and leadership in every field in which she worked. In the 1950's and 1960's, Lavona taught elementary and high school for eight years and coached award-winning high school debate teams in Garland, Texas. In the 1970's, she earned a real estate license and became a top producing real estate agent and broker. She served six years as Arkansas District Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the 1980's, leading the state chapter to national recognition for numerous achievements.
Lavona is survived by her son, Michael, of North Little Rock; a brother, Gayle Cone, and a sister-in-law, Martha Cone, of Dallas; three nephews; a grandniece; and a grandnephew. Lavona was preceded in death by her former husband, Marvin Rowett, and her mother, Hazle Cone. A private memorial service will be held.
