Laura Mercer Atkinson, age 84 of Bismarck, AR went home to be with the Lord, Sunday January 6, 2008, at her home in Bismarck, Arkansas. Laura was born February 21, 1923 in Wayne County, Kentucky the daughter of Everett and Laura Mercer. Laura was a loving and devoted homemaker. Her unwavering love and commitment to her family and friends will be an inspiration to her family for many years to come.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joseph Atkinson; 3 children, Ricky Atkinson, Roger Atkinson and Arthur Atkinson.
She is survived by one daughter Cathy Wigington and her husband Paul of Bismarck, AR; two sons, David Atkinson and his wife Lucille of Henderson, TX and Rusty Atkinson and his wife Gloria of Henderson, TX, one brother Arthur Mercer of Santee, CA, 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday evening and funeral services will follow immediately after in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be 1 PM Wednesday in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Henderson, TX Pallbearers will be: Carl, Jeff, and Michael Atkinson, James and Luke Erwin, Jamey and Jody Daniell, Calvin Brantley and Robert Brown. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
