Laudis Coley, age 86, of McRae died Saturday, November 12, 2016.
Born August 4, 1930 in Shirley, Arkansas, Laudis was the son of the late Orville and Ola (Cook) Coley. He began his career as a bridge builder and moved on to owning and operating truck stops, two of which were in Dermott and McRae. Laudis transitioned into farming, owning property in and around McRae, raising beans and rice and lastly, trees. He was talented in many areas, including construction, having built the family home. He also was creative and capable, inventing a water pump that held a U.S. Patent.
Laudis was a kind soul, always cheerful and ready to laugh. At times he was the ultimate jokester who tried to bring joy into the lives of others. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to being a committed family man, Laudis was recognized as a leader of his community. Laudis was a Christian man of strong faith, and long-time member of Garner Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Margie; son, Allan and wife Teresa; daughter, Angella and husband Jerry; seven grandchildren, Rickey Lee, Chelsea, Donavan, Morgan, Camran, Josh, Garrett; five great-grandchildren, Trent, Katie, Joshua, Kiera, Jaxon; and brother, Lindsey and wife Lois Jean.
Family will receive friends for visitation 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, with Funeral Thursday November 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Smith - Westbrook Funeral Home and burial in Weaver Cemetery, Shirley. Arrangements by Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home.
