Larry Frederick Smith, Sr., age 84, died on November 8, 2006. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on October 10, 1922 to Cecil Hohenschultz Smith and Clyde Foster Smith, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Bernard Smith. He attended Little Rock public schools.
During WWII, he served the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USS Bayfield from May 1942 to September 1945. During that time, he participated in four invasions, Normandy, Southern France, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa.
After the war, he returned to Little Rock and became employed with the City of Little Rock Fire Department. He retired from the Little Rock Fire Department in September 1968 and went to work for Safeway. He retired from Safeway in 1989.
He was a member of the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and St. Edward?s Catholic Church.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 59 years, Lois Mae Potter Smith, eight children, Sandy Odom (Larry) of Cabot, CeCe Cockburn (Winston), Larry Smith, Jr., Margaret Smith, Clyde Smith (Brenda) and David Scott Smith of Little Rock, Patricia Duncan of Sanford, North Carolina, and Beverly Minard (Bob) of Sherwood, Arkansas; fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and one brother, Clyde Smith (Diane) of Vilonia, Arkansas.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Home Care for the loving care given to there love one. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to American Cancer Society or Hospice Home Care.
Vigil Services will be held at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170, on Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at St. Edward?s Catholic Church, 9th & Sherman, Little Rock, Arkansas on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
