Larry Gene “L.G.” Thornton, age 63, of Mount Ida, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

 

He was born on October 7, 1959, in Hot Springs. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Gene Thornton, and his grandparents, Cecil and Ruth Thornton.

 

On July 30, 2016, he was married to Rhonda Jo Covington and together they have shared many happy memories.  L.G., as he was most fondly remembered by, attended Lake Ouachita Baptist Church in Mount Ida, and for over thirty years he worked as a tile setter.  He enjoyed hunting, old cars and had a special place in his heart for all animals.  Above all, L.G. loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren, who he adored.  He will be missed deeply by everyone who knew and loved him.

 

L.G. is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda Thornton of Mount Ida; his mother, Verda Dillard of Mount Ida; his stepdaughter, Jennifer Rollins and her husband, Derek of Caddo Hills; three grandchildren, Mason, Asher and Kinsley Rollins; his brother, Gary Dillard of Sims; his aunt, Paulette O’Neal of Mount Ida; his niece and her husband, Pacey and Paul Furr; and numerous extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 27, 2023, in the Lake Ouachita Baptist Church, Mount Ida, with Pastor Ty Huitt officiating.

 

Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Caddo Gap, under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, Glenwood, 209 North Third Street, Glenwood, Arkansas 71943.

 

Pallbearers will be Greg O’Neal, Travis Quinn, Richard Tucker, Bryan Bobo, Dale Scrimshire, and Doug Wickham.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Rollins and Gary Dillard.
